It’s been one week and two days since the surgery and he’s getting along very well. We got off to a little slower start today.. He was panting when he awoke around 6am and that was disconcerting because I thought his pain was subsiding. I gave him some meds and we had a quiet morning. He coughed a couple of times, which made me worry but I haven’t heard him cough again since so hopefully it doesn’t mean anything. His appetite wasn’t very good but eventually he ate. I guess some days are better than others. Let’s hope for a good one tomorrow.
How’s Toby doing? Jake has been really tired and mostly sleeping yesterday (today is 12 days post-op)… and I’m kind of worried… He doesn’t seem to be in pain, but he sure was more active just 2 days ago. I wanted to know if you’re seeing similar things wiith Toby…

Hang in there – first couple weeks are a roller coaster. Good days, not so good days, then things begin to even out and your pup will start gaining strength.
I actually HATED my pain meds and it turned out they made me anxious and pant a lot. The minute I got off the drugs I was much happier.
My peeps bribed me with liverwurst to get my eating again.

We’ve had some down days too. Just like you described, it seemed like he was doing better just two days ago. Yesterday morning he was panting so I had to give him an extra dose of meds. This morning he was sleeping more soundly. We recently learned of the exact diagnosis (finally), he has histiocytic sarcoma. I’m still not exactly sure what it is but I know it’s not good. We go to A & M Veterinary School tomorrow to visit with an oncologist who’s going to do a bone marrow aspiration and ultra sound so they can “stage” it. It’s tough living with this hanging over our heads. I just hope it hasn’t spread. I’ll keep you posted. Give Jake and Wolfie hugs from us!
