5th & Final Round of Chemo

Glad to report that we’re almost through with the chemo treatments.  Tomorrow will be the last one.  We went to A & M today for a day of tests (ultrasound, xrays, blood tests, etc..) and there is no sign of cancer except for two broken ribs which can’t be explained.  Toby hasn’t had any accident that would cause this so my fear is that the cancer has gotten into his bones and made them break.  The vet couldn’t explain it other than to say that dogs that undergo amputation are more prone to broken bones.   I don’t get it.  To know for sure would require a bone biopsy which is very painful and would require general anesthesia.  The type of chemo drug that would then be prescribed is VERY expensive and there is not much evidence that it would even do any good.  For now, we’re going to just assume he broke them in a fall which may have occurred when we weren’t home or the worse – the cancer has spread.

He acts like he feels great.  He’s happy and active and doesn’t appear to be in any pain.  Enjoying every day is our goal.

I’ll take him back for more xrays in a month to see if there are any new developments.

Happy New Year to all,

Tina

  1. Kick some cancer butt, Toby!

And take a break from the hockey playing in the house when your people are out. Body-checking is fun, yes, but vet visits for broken ribs are not. Plus your people are going to be worried about every little thing already, so don’t add any medium and large things to the list – when you can help it.

    Hoppy New Year!

  2. Great update, and an even better goal! Here’s to a Hoppy New Year indeed!

We’ve never heard of cancer just breaking random bones like that so I bet Toby just hurt himself somehow after losing his balance. Congratulations on wrapping up those chemo treatments.

  3. WOOHOO!!! As long as you’re feeling good, you can’t ask for anything more than that! Maybe your parents should set up a video camera for when you’re home by yourself? I bet they would get a lot of questions answered…

  4. So glad to hear that Toby is almost done with the chemo… Whoo! Hoo!! Hopefully the broken ribs aren’t causing him too much pain. Wishing you luck that the next vet visit goes smoothy too!!!

    Have a Happy New Year!!

  5. What an update! Keep the tennis balls coming, your tail waggin’ and smiles bright!

Happy Happy New Year Toby and Family!

  6. Yea Toby!!
Although Maggie did fine with her chemo she was much more her old self when she was done.
    Keep up the feeling good.

  7. Aerobics? Belly dancing? Who knows what they do when we aren’t around! It does sound odd. As long as he is in no pain, I’m happy! Can’t wait til you are done done done with that chemo!

  8. Toby keep enjoying life! That is the best attitude to have, enjoy the moment!

If only we could talk, you could tell your pawrents how you broke your ribs or maybe you don’t want them to know. We are pretty wild and crazy when the humans aren’t around. They never know what we are up to!!!

    Keep us posted!
